By providing links in the Document Type “URL”, data users can also receive links to (embedded) YouTube videos in accordance with the TAF 2.4 format description. The following special features must be taken into account during use.
As soon as a user calls up one of your websites with an embedded YouTube video, two things usually happen:
1) A number of cookies are set
2) Data will be transmitted to the DoubleClick network of Google
It is important that just the website-call leads to these actions, not only the start of the video.
Section 1): you, as the operator of the website, can avoid this by integrating the video in the so-called “extended data protection mode”. To do this, you must replace “www.youtube.com” within the URL with “www.youtube-nocookie.com”. In this case, no cookies are stored in the user’s system when the page is accessed with such embedded video.
According to Google, the use of the “extended data protection mode” when embedding YouTube videos in websites also leads to a connection to the DoubleClick network being established when the corresponding page is accessed, but data not being transferred until the video is started by the user.
Please note that, as a provider of web-based systems with embedded YouTube videos, you may be required by national data protection legislation to inform your users of these circumstances in an appropriate form.
